Afghan Women Collective was founded to continue the legacy of Shaheeda Hussain, a human rights defender who spent over four decades advocating for Afghan women’s right to education, participation, and dignity.

  1. Kandahar

    A midwife’s beginning

    Born and raised in Kandahar, where she trained as a midwife and first served the women of her community.

  2. 1979

    Exile to Pakistan

    After the Soviet invasion, her family fled to Pakistan, where the refugee camps became her next calling.

  3. The camps

    A decade of service

    For over ten years she cared for Afghan refugee women, providing healthcare and holding communities together.

  4. Return

    Women into governance

    Back in Afghanistan, she brought women into public life and represented Kandahar in three historic Loya Jirgas.

  5. High Peace Council

    A seat at the table

    She served on Afghanistan’s High Peace Council, insisting that peace could never exclude half the nation.

Education

Through the Rahnuma Mentorship Program and the Online Learning Academy, education stays within reach: one-on-one mentoring, live virtual classes, and the digital skills to navigate what comes next. What began with 10 students now reaches more than 200, with hundreds more on the waitlist.

Online Learning Academy

Provides Afghan women and girls inside Afghanistan with access to quality education through live virtual classes, delivered in a safe and supportive online environment. Because as formal education continues to be restricted for Afghan girls, learning never stops.

We run education, wellness, and relief programs that help Afghan women and their families rebuild stability and opportunity. We connect volunteers, donors, and partners with the communities that need support most.

Every contribution goes directly toward our programs: education access, emergency relief, and community support. We publish clear reporting so you can see exactly where your support goes.
